One of Bafoussam's better-established local restaurants in the commercial quarter, Restaurant des Chutes serves the highland Cameroonian staples well: ndolé (the national dish, a bitter-leaf stew with groundnuts and usually crayfish or meat), plantain in various preparations, and grilled chicken or fish served with bobolo or cassava. The ambiance is simple but clean — tiled floors, ceiling fans, and the kind of kitchen that starts early and runs through the early afternoon.
Lunch is the main event. Arrive by noon to get the full choice; by 2pm the kitchen is running down. A full meal with a Castel beer costs around 2,500–3,500 FCFA. The restaurant is a useful reference point for the price level that locals actually pay for a decent meal in the city, and considerably better value than the hotel restaurants nearby.
