The western Cameroon highlands are one of the most densely interesting regions in Cameroon for day trips. Foumban, the historic capital of the Bamoun kingdom, is 80 km northeast — a remarkable town with a royal palace, an active craft quarter, and one of the finest palace museums in West Africa. Bafoussam, the regional capital, is 60 km east and a useful transport hub. Bamenda to the north opens into the Ring Road circuit of highland villages.
Closer to Dschang, the village of Bafou (8 km north) is known for its traditional architecture and the waterfall accessible by a short walk from the road. The Chutes de la Métché, a series of waterfalls on the Métché River, are reachable by motorbike taxi in about an hour from Dschang and are most impressive in or just after the rainy season.
