Campo Ma'an National Park

Campo Ma'an is a 2,700-square-kilometre block of lowland equatorial rainforest stretching from the coast south of Kribi down to the Equatorial Guinea border. It is one of the most biodiverse forests in Africa, home to forest elephants, western lowland gorillas, chimpanzees, mandrills, and a remarkable density of primate species — eighteen at last count.

Practical access is harder than the wildlife implies. There are no luxury lodges and infrastructure is limited; visitors normally arrange a guide and 4x4 in Kribi or Campo town, two or three hours south. Trekking is on foot from forest camps, and gorilla sightings are not guaranteed. The reward, for those who make the effort, is one of the few remaining wildernesses on the West African coast — and almost no other tourists.
