Things to Do

N'Djamena is not a city of grand monuments, but a few places reward a visit. The National Museum provides useful context for the country's history before heading further afield. The city's markets are its real attraction: the Grand Marché is sprawling and chaotic, a good place to browse textiles, spices, and leather goods. The banks of the Chari River, which forms the border with Cameroon, are worth a walk in the cooler hours of the morning.
