Nioumachoua, also written Nyumashiwa, is a village on the south coast of Mohéli, the smallest and wildest of the main Comoros islands. It is not a polished beach resort. That is the point. Fishing boats, baobabs, village life, coral islets, and the sea all sit close together here.
The village is the natural base for the Mohéli Marine Park, whose mangroves, beaches, reefs, turtles, dugongs, and island wildlife make it one of the strongest natural anchors in the Comoros. Offshore, the islets of Nyumashiwa give Nioumachoua its unmistakable horizon and provide the setting for boat trips, snorkeling, and quiet beaches.
Nioumachoua asks for patience. Transport around Mohéli is limited, services are simple, and trips work best when arranged locally. But if you are already on Mohéli, this is not a place to skip in favour of sitting still in Fomboni. It is where the island's marine story becomes visible.
