Bukavu's main attraction is its setting, and the best way to take that in is on foot or by motorbike taxi along the ridges of the five peninsulas that make up the city. Beyond that there is the cathedral, the markets, a handful of colonial Art Deco buildings, and easy access to Lake Kivu. The serious draw — Kahuzi-Biega National Park, home to Grauer's gorilla — lies an hour out of town.
