Panorama Point

The desert ridge viewpoint for the classic photo of all three pyramids

At the south-western edge of the Giza Plateau, a desert ridge rises above the level of the monuments and provides the famous view of all three pyramids in a single frame. This is where almost every iconic photograph of Giza has been taken: the three pyramids receding from left to right against the sky, with Cairo's haze visible in the background. No other vantage point on the plateau gives you all three in proper alignment.

The area around Panorama Point is where the camel and horse touts congregate most aggressively, so be prepared to decline firmly. If you hire a camel for the circuit (which is a reasonable thing to do — the plateau is large and the sun is fierce), negotiate the price and duration before you mount and get it agreed in writing. The view is best in the morning when the sun is behind you and the pyramids are in full light; by mid-afternoon the western sun is in your eyes.
