Kategna is one of those Addis restaurants that has built a loyal following among both expats and locals through good, consistent food and a relaxed outdoor terrace. The injera with firfir (scrambled injera with spiced butter), the tibs, and the selection of vegetarian fasting dishes are all done well. The tej (honey wine) is among the best in the city.
The Bole area branch is the most accessible for most visitors. Prices are moderate and the service is friendly. Unlike the more theatrical cultural restaurants, Kategna is simply a good place to eat Ethiopian food without a floor show.
