Addis Ababa is a sprawling city, and walking between sights is rarely practical. The city's light rail, opened in 2015, covers two lines and is cheap and useful for some routes. Blue-and-white minibuses are the most common local transport, running fixed routes for a few birr, though they get crowded. Taxis are plentiful and affordable, but agree on a price before getting in as meters are rare. Ride-hailing apps like Ride work well in the city. Sidewalks are uneven and muddy in the rainy season (June to September), so watch your step if you do walk.
