Bole International Airport (ADD) is one of the busiest airports in Africa and the main hub for Ethiopian Airlines, which connects Addis Ababa to over 120 international destinations. Ethiopian Airlines has flights from most major African cities, as well as direct services from London, Washington DC, Beijing, Dubai, and many European capitals. The airport is about 5 km southeast of the city centre.
The easiest way into the city from the airport is by taxi — agree the price before getting in (around 200–300 birr to the Bole or Piazza areas). Ride-hailing apps including Ride are increasingly reliable. The light rail's terminal is at Kaliti, some distance from the airport, so it is not the most practical option for new arrivals with luggage.
There are also long-distance bus connections to other Ethiopian cities from the Autobus Terra (main bus station) near the Merkato, if you are arriving or departing overland.
