Bakau itself is compact enough to walk. The Kachikally Crocodile Pool, the fish market at Cape Point, the botanical gardens, and the main market are all within reasonable distance of each other on foot, though the heat makes midday walking uncomfortable.
Yellow town taxis are the standard local transport. They operate as shared taxis along fixed routes, picking up and dropping passengers along the way. They are cheap and frequent between Bakau, Fajara, and Kotu — the three areas effectively form a continuous coastal strip. Agree a price before getting in or pay the going local rate.
Tourist taxis are yellow with green stripes, larger and air-conditioned, and are available for hire at a fixed rate for longer journeys or airport runs. They will not take extra passengers. For a full day of travel outside the immediate area, hiring a tourist taxi with a driver is practical and not expensive.
