Banjul International Airport (BJL) is about 20 minutes from Bakau by taxi. It receives direct charter and scheduled flights from several European cities, particularly during the tourist season. A taxi from the airport to Bakau or the adjacent resort areas costs a fixed tourist rate; agree the price before getting in. There is no reliable public bus service from the airport.
From central Banjul, Bakau is roughly 12 kilometres away. Yellow town taxis make this journey regularly and cheaply, though they take additional passengers along the way. Tourist taxis — larger and more comfortable — are available for a fixed fare if you prefer a direct ride.
