Tafi Atome is a small village in Ghana's Volta Region, best known for the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary. The sanctuary protects the village's sacred grove and the mona monkeys that live in and around it, and it is one of Ghana's better examples of community-based ecotourism.
The appeal here is simple: you come for a guided walk, watch the monkeys move through the trees and village roofs, and learn why the animals were traditionally protected. Tourism income has helped fund local projects, so the visit feels more rooted in the village than in a fenced attraction.
Tafi Atome works well as part of a Volta Region trip, especially if you are also heading to Wli Falls or Mount Afadja. Nearby Tafi Abuife Kente Village adds a useful cultural stop, with Ewe kente weaving in long narrow strips.
