Bofa Beach is a long, clean stretch of white sand a few kilometres north of Kilifi town, backed by casuarina trees and palm groves. It's the best swimming beach in the area — wide, shallow, and largely empty even at the weekends. The tide retreats a long way at low water, exposing tidal pools full of small fish and crabs.
A handful of small beach hotels and a couple of low-key beach bars are the only development. The atmosphere is far quieter than the resort strips around Mombasa or Malindi, which is exactly why people come to Kilifi.
