The town itself is the main attraction — wander the coral-stone alleys, sit on the seafront watching the dhows, climb up to the fort. Two or three nights is the right length for a first visit: a day for Lamu town and the museums, a day for a sailing dhow to Manda or Kiwayu, and a slow day on Shela beach.
