Colobus Conservation

Conservation centre protecting the endangered Angolan colobus monkey

The Colobus Trust runs conservation and education work to protect the Angolan colobus monkeys that live in the coastal forest behind Diani Beach. These striking black-and-white monkeys are endangered on the Kenyan coast, threatened by deforestation and road deaths. The trust operates a small visitor centre and organises guided forest walks where sightings are almost guaranteed.

The centre accepts volunteers and welcomes visitors. The guides are knowledgeable about the broader coastal forest ecosystem, including the birds and other primates sharing the same forest strip. Colobus monkeys are semi-habituated and often seen from the road — the trust's rope bridges strung across the main Diani road help them cross safely above traffic.
