Diani Beach has built a strong reputation as one of East Africa's best kite-surfing destinations. The lagoon between the beach and the reef provides flat, shallow water, and the south-east trade winds blow steadily from June through September — creating near-ideal conditions. Several schools along the beach offer tuition for beginners and equipment hire for experienced riders.
The peak kite season coincides with the cooler, drier months when wind is most reliable. Lessons are available for complete beginners and typically include a theory session followed on-water coaching in the lagoon. More experienced kiters will find long, uncrowded stretches of beach to work with.
