Our Lady of Victories Cathedral

The cathedral of the Catholic archdiocese of Maseru is a 1930s sandstone church on a low rise just east of the city centre, the most prominent religious building in town. Its modestly pointed twin towers and stone facade are surrounded by the offices of the archdiocese and a small school.

Catholicism is the largest single denomination in Lesotho — French missionaries arrived in the 1860s and converted King Moshoeshoe I shortly before his death — and the cathedral is consequently very busy on Sundays. Step inside during a service to hear the choir singing in Sotho.
