King's African Rifles Memorial

A war memorial in the centre of the old colonial quarter commemorates the soldiers of the King's African Rifles from Nyasaland (as Malawi was then) who died in the two World Wars and in the various colonial campaigns of the early twentieth century. The KAR was the most significant pan-East-African military force of the colonial era; the names on the memorial are a small reminder of the global reach of the British war effort.

The memorial sits in a small landscaped square that includes other reminders of the colonial period. It is a five-minute walk from the old Parliament and worth combining with a wider tour of the centre.
