Dar Si Said (Museum of Weaving and Carpets)

A late-nineteenth-century palace near the Bahia, built by the brother of grand vizier Ba Ahmed, and now home to Morocco's national museum of weaving and carpets. The collection traces the geography of Moroccan rug-making across the Atlas and the desert: Berber kilims from the Middle Atlas, knotted carpets from Rabat, the heavy striped weavings of the Ait Ouaouzguite. The labels are in Arabic, French, and English and the layout is calm and uncluttered.

The building itself is one of the best surviving examples of an upper-class Marrakshi residence: painted ceilings, zellij tilework, and three quiet courtyards.
