The formal rose and olive gardens immediately south and west of the Koutoubia mosque, with paths laid out around the foundations of the original eleventh-century mosque on the site. The garden is one of central Marrakesh's few free open spaces and a useful break between the bustle of Jemaa el-Fna and the medina. Locals come at dusk to walk; visitors come to photograph the minaret with bougainvillea in the foreground.
