The best Maputo shopping is for crafts, food and fabric. Mercado Central is the main food market; the FEIMA craft fair is the city's open-air craft hub; and Núcleo de Arte is the place to find contemporary Mozambican paintings and sculpture, including the famous gun-metal sculptures made from decommissioned civil war weapons. The shopping malls in Polana and Sommerschield are useful for everyday needs but not memorable.
