Most of Maputo's sights cluster in the Baixa (the colonial-era downtown grid) and the wealthier Polana quarter to the north. A morning's walk takes in the railway station, the cathedral and the cluster of grand civic buildings around Praça da Independência; an afternoon is well spent in the National Art Museum or the bullring at Malhangalene. The city is small enough to cover on foot if you avoid the midday sun and take a taxi after dark.
