The Nyamirambo Women's Center is a community organisation that has become one of Kigali's most rewarding visitor experiences. Founded in 2007 to provide income and training to women in the neighbourhood, it runs cooking classes, craft workshops, and neighbourhood walking tours that give you a genuine street-level view of the city that a taxi ride cannot.
The walking tours — morning and afternoon options — wind through the market stalls and mosque courtyards of Nyamirambo, stopping to talk with artisans and community members along the way. The cooking class teaches Rwandan dishes and is typically followed by a shared meal. The centre's small craft shop sells textiles and handmade items made by the women who work there. Booking ahead is recommended, especially for tours and classes.
