Gorée Beach

The small sandy beach on the protected eastern side of the island — facing the mainland — is busy with families and swimmers in the late afternoon. The water is calm, shallow, and considerably cleaner than the Dakar shoreline opposite, though it gets crowded.

A few of the lakeside restaurants put tables right on the sand, and there is a small fishing pier at the north end. It is more about people-watching than serious swimming.
