Église Saint-Charles-Borromée

The Catholic church of Saint-Charles-Borromée, built in 1828–30, is one of the oldest stone churches in West Africa. It sits a short walk from the ferry landing and is still active — masses are held in French and Wolof, and the choir is famous on the island.

The interior is simple and cool, with painted wooden altars and a barrel-vaulted nave. A small graveyard alongside contains the tombs of several colonial-era residents. Step in for a few minutes after the museums — it is one of the quieter and more reflective spots on the island.
