Gorée is small enough to walk end to end in twenty minutes, but its sights carry an outsized weight. The Maison des Esclaves is the place most visitors come to see; give it the time it deserves. Beyond that, the island rewards a slow wander — past Portuguese colonial houses, bougainvillea-draped walls, and the studios of artists who have made this place their home.
