Saint-Louis is 270km north of Dakar by road, a journey that takes three to four hours depending on the state of the road and how many stops the vehicle makes. The most common way to get here from the capital is by sept-place — the shared seven-seater Peugeot 504 estate cars that serve as Senegal's intercity bus system. They leave from the Gare Routière de Pompiers in Dakar when full, which usually means a wait of thirty to sixty minutes. Expect to pay around 4,000–5,000 CFA.
Bush taxis also run from Thiès and other towns in the north. There is no direct train service.
Saint-Louis has a small airport, Aéroport de Saint-Louis, but commercial flights are infrequent and the schedules change. Check locally whether any domestic routes are running when you visit. Most travellers arrive by road.
