Saint-Louis rewards slow exploration on foot. The island is compact enough to walk end to end in twenty minutes, but there is enough to look at — facades, doorways, courtyards, the river itself — that you can spend a full day without feeling rushed. The real sights are the city itself and the two remarkable national parks nearby.
