Saint-Louis has a good food scene by Senegalese provincial standards. The tourist-facing restaurants cluster around the northern end of the island, catering heavily to the steady stream of visitors who come for the jazz festival and the bird parks. Beyond those, you will find proper Senegalese cooking in smaller places and local eateries on the Sor mainland. The local speciality is thiéboudienne — rice cooked in tomato sauce with fish — which you will find everywhere and which is genuinely excellent here, given the proximity of the fishing fleet.
