Saint-Louis has a lively bar scene concentrated around the northern end of the island and the terrace hotels that line the waterfront. On weekday evenings it is quiet; on festival weekends it is anything but. Most bars serve Gazelle or Flag beer alongside Senegalese soft drinks and attaya — the sweet mint tea brewed in tiny glasses that is the social lubricant of the Sahel. The terrace bars with river views are the best places to watch the sun go down over the Pont Faidherbe.
