Gouvernance

Grand colonial governor's palace, centrepiece of the island

The former French governor's palace is the grandest building on the island — a large two-storey structure in faded white and yellow that still functions as the regional government headquarters. You cannot go inside, but the exterior and the square in front of it are worth a look. It is the architectural centrepiece of the island and gives a sense of what Saint-Louis looked like at the height of its importance.
