Beaches

Freetown sits on a peninsula with some of West Africa's finest beaches. The city beach at Lumley stretches about four kilometers between Aberdeen and Lumley, lined with bars and restaurants — it is where locals and visitors congregate on weekends. The real prizes are further down the peninsula: Lakka, Tokeh, and River No. 2 offer white sand, jungle backdrops, and far fewer people. Budget one to two hours each way on rough roads, or arrange a boat from Aberdeen.
