The Central Mosque is the principal Sunni mosque of Freetown and one of the city's most visible religious buildings — a large, modern, green-and-white structure on the side of the central ridge. About a fifth of Sierra Leoneans are Muslim, and the surrounding streets are correspondingly busy on Fridays.
Non-Muslim visitors are welcome at most times outside prayers. Dress modestly, remove shoes, and ask before taking photographs of worshippers.
