York Beach

Quiet beach south of Freetown with village atmosphere and Atlantic surf

York Beach sits well south of central Freetown, where the peninsula coast becomes slower and more village-like. It is not as convenient as Lumley or as commonly mentioned as River No. 2, but the setting has the same Atlantic drama: forested hills, pale sand, and surf rolling in from a wide horizon.

Go with realistic expectations about facilities and transport. This is a beach for a half-day escape, a swim when conditions are safe, or a coastal drive that shows how quickly Freetown gives way to villages, coves, and green hills.
