Bronze Beach is the long stretch of sand north of the Umhlanga Lighthouse, sheltered enough to be the local choice for families and gentle swimmers. The surf is much smaller than Durban's central beaches, and the water is clear and warm.
The Cabana stretch immediately north is similar — apartment blocks, a promenade, lifeguards, and a couple of decent cafés. Park near the lighthouse and walk up the beach.
