Kidike Flying Fox Sanctuary

A small community-run conservation site in central Pemba focused on protecting the Pemba flying fox — Pteropus voeltzkowi, a giant fruit bat endemic to the island and listed as vulnerable. Kidike has one of the largest known roosting colonies, often several hundred bats hanging visibly in the canopy during the day. Guided walks last about 45 minutes and include an explanation of the bats' ecology and the local conservation programme.

The site is reached by a 20-minute drive east of Chake-Chake on the road to Pujini. Small entry fee paid to the village committee. Combines naturally with a half-day Pujini ruins visit.
