Wete

Wete is the second town of Pemba, a quiet port on the northwest coast where most of the island's clove harvest is loaded onto small coasters bound for Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam. The town runs along a single long street parallel to the harbour, with the old colonial-era warehouses still in use and a daily produce market that draws in growers from across northern Pemba.

There is little for tourists to do in Wete itself beyond a slow walk along the harbour at sunset and a meal of grilled fish at one of the dukas on the seafront, but it makes the most peaceful overnight stop on the island and a useful base for trips to Ngezi forest. The MV Mapinduzi-II ferry to Zanzibar leaves from here weekly.
