La Corniche

La Corniche is the seafront boulevard that runs north from the modern port along the Mediterranean coast, lined with apartment blocks, small hotels, café-restaurants, and a thin strip of public beach that gets busy in July and August. It is where Bizerte residents come to walk in the evening, where Tunisian families holiday in summer, and where the city's nightlife — modest as it is — concentrates.

The beach itself is functional rather than spectacular: fine grey-yellow sand, calm water, no major reef or feature. The interest is more in the atmosphere — the corniche at sundown on a summer evening, with promenaders walking the seawall, kids selling jasmine, the smoke from grilled-fish stands at the seafront cafés.

The corniche runs about three kilometres from the modern port north to the Hammouda Pasha area, with several roundabouts and bus-stop access points along the way. Walking the full length takes about an hour.
