Mana Pools is one of the better places in Zimbabwe to see African wild dogs. Packs move through the floodplain and woodland in search of impala and other medium-sized prey, often covering large distances in the cool hours of morning and evening. When they are active, the pace of the bush changes abruptly.
Wild dogs are social, vocal, and fascinating to watch even when they are resting. They greet one another with high calls, care for pups communally, and coordinate hunts with a precision that looks almost rehearsed. Give them space and never try to follow a hunt aggressively; pressure from vehicles is one of the small stresses endangered predators do not need.
