Tasek Lama is BSB's urban escape — a forested park within walking distance of the city centre where marked trails lead up into the hills to waterfalls and viewpoints. The lower reservoir is a peaceful spot, and even in the lower reaches you will hear the calls of birds that would not survive in a less forested city. The park is popular with local joggers in the early morning.
The main waterfall, about 30 minutes' walk up the main trail, flows year-round but is most impressive after rain. The path is steep in places, and the humidity is real, so go early. The upper trails continue beyond the waterfall into denser forest where you might spot gibbons or macaques. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water. The park entrance is on Jalan Tasek Lama, about a 15-minute walk from the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque.
