Handan rewards visitors with a dense cluster of historical and cultural sites that most Chinese cities would kill to have. The Zhao-era remains, the Buddhist grottoes, and the living ceramic tradition together make a compelling case for spending two days here rather than just passing through.
The city centre is walkable between the main sites. The Xiangtangshan Grottoes and the Yecheng ruins require a separate excursion — either by taxi or on a tour. Most visitors combine both in a single day trip.
