The night market around Shengjin Tower is one of the oldest and most visited food markets in the city, operating every evening in the streets surrounding the ancient pagoda. Stalls sell skewered meats (including unusual offal options), fried rice cakes, stinky tofu, roast corn, freshwater crayfish (especially popular in summer), and a Jiangxi version of scallion pancake that is thinner and crispier than its northern counterpart.
The market is at its best between 7pm and 11pm, when most stalls are fully set up and the surrounding streets close to traffic. Prices are very low. Navigation is by wandering and pointing; most stall operators are practiced at serving customers who don't speak Chinese.
