The bars and outdoor seating venues along Yanjiang Road (沿江路) on the east bank of the Gan River have grown into one of the most pleasant places to drink in Nanchang. The strip faces the Honggutan skyline directly across the water, and on evenings when the synchronized LED light show is running on the west-bank towers, tables outside any of the riverside venues have a surprisingly dramatic view. Beer and local baijiu are cheaper here than in the tourist-facing venues around Bayi Square.
Most places open at 5pm and stay open until 1 or 2am. Expect a mix of craft beer bars, karaoke-adjacent venues, and simpler beer gardens. The less formal outdoor operations — plastic tables, beer crates as seats — are typically the better value and the livelier atmosphere.
