Xining has a small but genuine nightlife scene concentrated along Liyuan Road and the surrounding lanes, plus a growing number of independent cafes in the Chengxi district that cater to the city's students and young professionals. The Muslim quarter around Dongguan has excellent teahouses serving the local eight-treasure tea (ba bao cha) — a social tradition worth participating in.
