Xining has two distinct shopping traditions: the commercial mainstream of Chinese malls and high streets, and the specialty markets that reflect the province's cultural position at the meeting of Tibetan, Hui, and Han worlds. The Muslim quarter markets are the most interesting for browsing, particularly for dried goods, spices, and religious items.
