The Chengbei (North City) biotech industrial park contains a surprising cluster of specialist museums: the Tibetan Medicine Culture Museum, the Yak Museum, and the Kunlun Jade Museum are all within walking distance of each other in this modern district. It is an unlikely setting — wide boulevards, glass office buildings — but the museums themselves are good, and visiting them together makes a coherent morning or afternoon.
The district is about 5 kilometres north of the city centre; bus no. 34 runs from the central station. There are few restaurants in the immediate area of the museum campus; bring a snack or plan to return to the centre for lunch. The Tibetan Medicine Museum restaurant serves reasonable Tibetan food in the museum basement.
