The Huangshui National Wetland Park protects a stretch of the Huangshui River valley west of the city centre, preserving riparian habitat in a landscape that has otherwise been heavily modified by agriculture and urban development. The park contains reed beds, willows, and seasonally flooded meadows that support a good variety of wading birds and waterfowl, including several species not easily seen in the more developed parts of the city.
The park has a walking path along the riverbank and several observation platforms. It is most interesting in spring (April–May) during bird migration and in summer when breeding birds are active. Entry is free. The western end of the park is accessible by bus from the city centre; the walk along the riverside back toward the city takes about two hours at a relaxed pace.
