Furong Street — Hibiscus Street — is a short pedestrianised lane in the southern old city district that has become Jinan's main historic street food area. The street itself is lined with small restaurants, snack stalls, and tea houses in renovated traditional buildings, and the surrounding lanes contain spring-fed canals, stone bridges, and the old architecture of the spring district neighborhood.
The food here is specifically Shandong: dofu nao (soft tofu in a savory broth), jianbing guozi (egg and vegetable crêpe), noodles in sauce, grilled lamb skewers, and roasted chestnuts in season. The tourist-orientated stalls are present but the area also functions as a genuine local food market on weekday mornings. Come for breakfast or mid-afternoon snacks; the spring canal scenery in this neighborhood is at its best at these quieter times.
