Jinan's best shopping is in things that come from the region: Lu embroidery is a recognized intangible cultural heritage, and good examples can be found in the craft shops around Furong Street and the spring district. Rose cakes — sweet pastries made with dried rose petals and a Jinan specialty — make excellent gifts. Chuju opera masks and shadow puppetry figures are made in workshops near the cultural heritage quarter.
The Jinan International Convention and Exhibition Center area in the east hosts large wholesale and retail markets for everything from electronics to textiles. For everyday shopping, the Quancheng Road commercial strip has all the major Chinese retail chains; the shopping centers around Jingsi Road are more upscale.
